Ensuring Baby Safety in the Bathtub

Bath time is a special time of day parents and babies both enjoy. But make sure you’re diligent about baby safety in the bathtub. Keep in mind that there are a high percentage of slip-and-fall injuries every year, caused by bathtub mishaps. And considering that babies can drown in a few inches of water in a matter of minutes, the importance of baby safety in the bathtub can’t be overstated.

The number one rule, when considering baby safety in the bathtub is to always stay within arms length of your baby at all times. Never take your eyes off your baby while she is in the bathtub. (Ignore the phone, let the doorbell ring)

And remember that a bath seat is not designed for baby safety in the bathtub; it’s designed to give your baby added support. Don’t assume that you have added baby safety in the bathtub because your baby is propped up with a bath seat. You still need to have strict rules when it comes to baby safety in the bathtub and stay within arms reach of your little bather. And make sure you only use those bath seats or bath ring when your baby can sit up on her own.

The other thing you want within arms reach, to ensure baby safety in the bathtub, is the soap, shampoo, wash cloth and towel. Grab everything ahead of time and keep it close by so you don’t have to move away from you baby.

Another aspect of baby safety in the bathtub is that spout and those faucets! Make sure your baby isn’t close enough to turn on the hot water, and watch out that she doesn’t get bumped or scratched by the spout when you put her in and out of the tub.
